Niv’s review published on Letterboxd:
Over the past few years I have been trying to get myself into the more "classical" era of film, but there was always something about the pacing and dialogue that held me back from really diving into them. However, what I have come to realized after watching Seven Samurai is that I may have been looking into the wrong parts of the world.
Seven Samurai is everything I looking for in not only an action film, but film in general. The performances were great, it was well shot, the music set the tone perfectly, the characters were lovable, there were legitimate stakes on the line, had a lasting effect after it had concluded, and of course, the directing was legendary. Few films can even come close to reaching such high levels of excellence, and to think it can be done in a movie made 60+ years ago.
Not only has Akira Kurosawa lived up to my high expectations, but has created a piece that, I can confidently say, is one of my favorite films of all time. Thank you to everyone involved in creating this masterpiece, and thank you to Letterboxd for having lists that helped me discover this gem.
