Film #2 of Project Rewatch 2022

Yeah, this movie a motherfucking masterpiece.

It's been a long, long time since I have seen this so I am glad I decided to rewatch it as I forgot just how good it is.

Like, it balances that line of being meta while also not being lazy and relying on said tropes (like say, Cabin in the Woods) that it is mocking. Not only that, but while I think the end reveal was a little obvious (as most slashers are), the film is clever enough to keep dropping in red herrings throughout, just to keep you guessing.

I think what I like the most about this film is the performances though. We get great performances from Matthew Lillard (my favourite performance in this film), Skeet Ulrich and Rose McGowan and Jamie Kennedy in support, and the three leads, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox and David Arquette, are all fantastic as well. I think Cox's character is quite unlikable but portrayed very well.

Also, the opening scene of this might be the best opening scene of any slasher film ever. Hell, maybe any horror film. Having a big name like Drew Barrymore, who you think would be the star of a film like this, get killed in the opening five minutes is fucking genius.

Seriously, this a fucking banger and I totally forgot how good it was. Loved the Wes Craven cameo too!
