Ayden The NinjaPirateBear’s review published on Letterboxd:
Man, this movie is just fucking cool.
It almost feels like two films; a crime thriller almost akin to my previous viewing, Natural Born Killers in that a duo is on a crime spree trying to escape; the second half is a schlocky action-horror which is right in Robert Rodriguez's wheelhouse. I think both halves are excellent despite being so tonally different.
I also genuinely think this is one of George Clooney's best roles. Granted I haven't seen a lot of his "serious" roles, but the performance here is pretty great if I'm being completely honest. The rest of the performances are solid too, although I'll never understand Tarantino's (or anyone's) obsession with feet. Not kink-shaming! Just not for me. Like, I don't give a fuck how hot Salma Hayek is, I would never stick her foot in my mouth,
The only reason I docked it half a star from my original rating is I have an issue with the ending in that it feels the actions in the first half of the film are forgiven a little too easily. I won't go into specifics cos spoilers but if you've seen it, I'm sure you can figure what I mean.
Overall, this is an incredibly fun film that I could see myself revisiting every year. It definitely won't be as long for my next rewatch anyway.
