This is one of the queerest films I’ve ever seen.... and yes I just said queerest because that’s the only word that accurately describes the energy I felt seeping from the screen whilst watching. I absolutely loved this, it was an ingenious way to honour Shirley Jackson, placing her in a horror story of her own making. Excellent script and even better directing.
Elisabeth Moss, whom I have had a crush on since mad men was casting perfection... she played unhinged to the T.
My god I wish Elisabeth Moss would eat a mushroom out of my hand too *sigh*
AKA Portrait of two boring women by the sea.
All we have here are thinly written caricature’s of 19th century women. The similarities between this and God’s Own Country are uncanny, we explore the same themes of loneliness, desire and isolation but with a less successful end result imo. This should’ve stayed in the Wattpad drafts.
