Bought two tickets for myself to support my girl Halle, and I was not disappointed. It's not a cinema revelation but it's the best version it could possibly achieve with such a well-known story, and it all comes down to the beautiful Halle Bailey and her golden soaring voice to breathe new life into this old classic.
Apart from the gorgeous visuals and impressive soundtrack, the most inspiring quality of The Little Mermaid is how diverse the whole ensemble is, from accents to races, which I applaud since I love to see how it pisses off so many hypocrites who hide their racism behind a stupid hashtag.
The stunningly beautiful Jonah Hauer-King is also perfectly cast for his role of Prince Eric, although his singing voice is for sure not the strongest of the cast. Awkwafina and Daveed Diggs on the other hand have great comedy timing and rapping skills to serve as the perfect comic relief for such a dark fairy tale. Recommended.
