    I enjoyed the premise for how absurd and gruesome it was, but its artistic potential is squandered by an indulgent obsession with weird psychosexual relationships between the characters

    Relentlessly confronting and consistently visceral. Colombian mountains and jungles serve for some breathtaking dramatic set pieces. The use of child characters works exceptionally to portray both the cycle of violence and sacrifice of innocence that are results of this perpetual civil war. The lack of clear sequencing of these scenes make the film seem somewhat directionless as it progresses, but this works to create a downward-spiraling  experience that refuses to let you up for air.
