Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace ★★

For me, this is definitely the worst Star Wars film without a doubt! It has a plot so boring and uninteresting that it’s hard to keep your mind from thinking about something else! It does have it’s moments though, some amazing ones in fact! But unfortunately they can’t save this unfortunate display!

The things I do really like are Qui-Gon Jin, Obi-Wan and Darth Maul! Three excellent characters who work best when they’re all together! Their fight scene towards the end is one of my favourite scenes in the prequel trilogy and stands as one of the most epic lightsaber battles in the franchise! I really wish Qui-Gon would’ve stuck around because he’s very impressive and makes a big impression on the film! For the most part the film looks nice, the architecture is beautiful! And the music is as dazzling as always! Everything else for me though is pretty bad! Jar Jar Binks is perhaps the most insufferable character in the franchise’s history! His voice is annoying, he gets in the way all the time and is just quite creepy! Just as bad is young Anakin Skywalker! A whiny ego-filled brat who doesn’t shut up! The whole pod racing scene goes on for too long and I didn’t care about any of it! And what’s worse than that is space politics! The endless senator room scenes that just drivel and drag on for ages! They could honestly make me fall asleep! The plot is so uninteresting and looking back, not a huge amount is accomplished by the end! So while it has it’s moments, for me it is easily the worst Star Wars film!

Overall, Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace is a very underwhelming and frustrating start to the prequel trilogy! But with that being said it does have its fair share of moments!
