This was a real assault on the senses. Ugly, loud, and aggressively dumb. There isn't even a story. I deeply regret my decision to watch this nonsense.

The design and cinematography in this are breathtaking. It uses a science fiction premise to explore some pretty weighty themes. Going into this I was a bit worried that it might have a supernatural element that I wouldn’t like, but it is actually more about exploring this premise from a psychological perspective, and contemplating the nature of human consciousness and sanity. Glad I finally got around to watching this. Not sure I fully understood it, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Hard to find fault with this movie. It is a stunningly beautiful film that balances an ambitious avant-garde sensibility with an enthralling futuristic thriller. I could watch this 100 times and still not entirely understand parts of it, but I don't think that detracts from what a powerful experience it is to watch it. And the practical special effects are mind-blowingly good.
