A true cinematic masterpiece.
To say this movie is a just great cinema or a great sequel doesn't do it justice as it doesn't the first film. These movies are life lessons in the way they display principals and code. A way of life.
The simultaneous timelines showing the rise of Vito Corleone and and fall of Michael Corleone is just amazing. A young Vito getting his revenge and that final scene with Michael just sitting there sticks with you. Al Pacino and Robert Dr Niro's performances are special. Both subtle yet still spectacular.
As with the first the film the dialogue was amazing.
Michael Corleone: "I saw a strange thing today. Some rebels were being arrested. One of them pulled the pin on a grenade. He took himself and the captain of th command with him. Now, soldiers are paid to fight; the rebels aren't"
Hyman Roth: "What does that tell you?"
Michael Corleone: "They could win."
Probably my personal favourite quote of the film.
It has a runtime of 200 mins but it doesn't feel like anything close to that. It has a deeper storyline than the first and probably is the better film overall but I prefer the first. The presence of Vito Corleone was missed.
Look forward to rewatching this masterpiece.
