  • The Equalizer

    The Equalizer

Denzel really nailed it! If you're referring to the villain than yes he nailed it/him/them but as far as the film goes no he didn't nail it! He did it on a wing and a prayer and it shows!

Truth be told it really should have been a pilot for a bold new tv series, nothing about the film warranted screening at your local cinema!

I never bought his character, or the hokey relationships depicted in the film with the…

  • DeepStar Six

    DeepStar Six

1989 gave birth to a plethora of deep sea creature features The Abyss and Leviathan being the cream of the crop, I still managed to find some entertainment value in Deepstar Six!

Cheap production values, so-so script and woeful acting, and dated, less than desirable special effects it still managed to lead us down the primrose path into the realm of suspense and horrifying creature action sequences that tickled my fancy!

Nothing to write home about but suitable for a…

  • Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

Down the prickly path we go.. a much darker and progressively transformative addition to the Star Wars series! And thankfully it's not bogged down by the over zealous exposition that plagued the two prequels that preceded it!

One of the best things about it is I will never have to lay my eyes on the worst actor (Hayden Christensen) in this franchise as I go through the rest of the series!

Doom and Gloom dangled deliciously in the air as Jedi's scrambled to their respective hideouts and lairs! A fitting ending to one trilogy and a great lead in to the next trilogy!

  • Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones

The force is tickling my fancy in this prequel! Case in point Yoda (Frank Oz) and Count Dooku's (Christopher Lee) Epic lightsaber battle!

See it here (the first 2 minutes and 43 seconds of the video)

Still top heavy in the exposition department which makes it a daunting task to get through the segments of the film that serve as nothing more than a set up for overly abundant subplots! But once the film kicks into high gear we…

  • Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Lets just put my cards on the table I wasn't enamored with this film as I was back in the day when this film first came out! I suppose my ongoing evolution as a cinephile has upped the ante by way of expectations and ever developing tastes!

Back then it was easier to satiate me with a few light sabre battles with a dude with horns protuding from his head and a brief Yoda cameo! Now not so much! I…

  • Angels & Demons

    Angels & Demons

Ron Howard delivered one heck of an engrossing thriller! Fast paced non stop satisfACTION! The foreboding sense of impending doom became real all too fast when several cardinals are kidnapped and their life expectancy goes from very good to nada-ville in just a matter of hours!

If that's not enough throw in a deadly disaster of epic proportions that has you fidgeting, fussing and hoping the eveready bunny comes through and saves the day!

Spoiler Alert -->> Eveready Bunny demanded…

  • The Da Vinci Code

    The Da Vinci Code

An adventurous cerebral romp brought to us by director Ron Howard that makes the transition from implausible to plausible so very convincing!

A fabulous all-star cast featuring Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Alfred Molina, Jürgen Prochnow, Jean Reno, and Paul Bettany whom just happened to elevate the film with their extraordinary performances which translated into great success at the box office!

Sadly there was a modern day form of censorship and the film was banned in various countries due…

  • Norte, the End of History

    Norte, the End of History

When I popped this on I had no knowledge of the premise nor the runtime (4 hours 10 minutes)! Both turned out to be quite surprising! The film covers a wide variety of themes but if I were to narrow down the field it is a film about injustice and guilt! One of our characters will experience spiritual transcendence while another will transcend straight to hell!

Admittedly I nearly turned this off twice I was extremely annoyed by the philosophical…

  • Schindler's List

    Schindler's List

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

"No dry eyes during the screening of Steven Spielberg's historical masterpiece! I know I had to wrangle a few rogue tears several times myself! Near the end when Schindler collapsed from grief and guilt and everyone gathered round him to console him I totally lost it! Because by then the full brunt of what I had just witnessed hit me like a ton of bricks!

A film where no one in the audience is allowed to remain a bystander! No…

  • Velvet Goldmine

    Velvet Goldmine

A feast for the eyes and ears! Fabulous costumes, set pieces and tunes that will thrill those whom feel nostalgic for the days when glam rock was the fashionable scene!

When it ended I was still reveling in the gleefully flambouyant imagery and rockin soundtrack but when it came to the storyline it left me feeling extremely underwhelmed! I didn't care one iota about the characters or whether or not they found Slade! Instead of wasting so much of the…

  • Hellboy II: The Golden Army

    Hellboy II: The Golden Army

The audience truly hit the jackpot when once again Guillermo del Toro directed the second film in the Hellboy franchise! del Toro as a director is an indulgent and nurturing parent whom gleefully provides everything any audience member could ever want or need!

Everything about this film reflects his love of his craft and everything is done with exuberant gusto! del Toro's films are beautifully wrapped gifts with huge festive bows that we can't wait to rip open to discover…

  • Hellboy

"Look at the size of that whammer"

If I had a nickel for every time I said that I'd have a negative balance in my checking account! ;-)

Ok so the dialogue may not be the normal every day repertoire of the average Joe Blow but it was often times funny or uber cool like something you'd find in some pulp fiction novel! The film as a whole definitely had a Noirish feel to it!

    The special effects team obviously…
