The Room

The Room ★★★★★

The Room is such an enigma of a film that it transcends any criticism you could possibly level against it. Sure, it consists of characters that contradict themselves at every turn, shoddy production quality that makes that the long establishing shots look like art and performances that are out of this world for all the wrong reasons. But taking it as a whole and especially if you view it with an audience, one does not care to pick apart the individual elements and just lets the transcendent experience wash over. For that reason alone, Wiseau's magnum opus deserves all the stars it can get. I would be lying if I said I didn't love this more than most masterpieces.

Screening Highlights (in no particular order):
- Shouts of "DENNY!" whenever Denny enters a scene
- Shouts of "BECAUSE SHE'S A WOMAN" whenever Lisa or her mother talks about how she can or cannot do something
- (my contribution) Going "UGH" when Lisa made the pizza order of "half Canadian bacon with pineapple, half artichoke with pesto and light on the cheese"
- Chanting "GO" during establishing shots
- Clapping to the beat of those R&B songs accompanying sex scenes
- Audible gasps when Chris-R shows up
- Yelling "DO IT" during Johnny's final moments
- (my personal fave) Someone singing the Mission: Impossible theme when Johnny sets up the tape recorder
