Bullitt ★★★★

Peter Yates' iconic 1968 smash is famous for its car chase but what's striking today is how slow and painstaking it is in its storytelling. It's hard to imagine a thriller today devoting two minutes to its protagonist buying frozen dinners at a supermarket but the deliberation and the care pay off big time and how much poorer would cinema of the 1960s and 70s be without Lalo Schifrin? The guy's MVP of just about everything he worked on.
