Resurrection 2022
obviously a great actors showcase for hall and roth that gestures towards the abusive, unhinged grieving couple dynamics of previous arthouse allegory genre outings like possession or antichrist and the chilly city atmospherics/psychological unravelling of dead ringers (which it even cribs part of its climax from) but also suffers a bit from the same thing all these modern "elevated" movies do in the sense that it's basically got one incredibly simple idea that it hammers over and over for the…

Ghosted 2023
“You two should get a room”
Ghosted is directed by Dexter Fletcher and stars Ana De Armas, Chris Evans and Adrien Brody.
Ghosted is by far the biggest movie Apple has released so far but bigger doesn’t always mean better. On the surface Ghosted seems like it should have all the ingredients to make it work as sort of a modern day Mr. and Mrs. Smith. You have a competent director in Dexter Fletcher who directed stuff like Eddie The… -
The Covenant 2023
“You think if I could be free of this debt, I wouldn’t be? You think I have a choice? There is no choice.”
The Covenant is directed by Guy Ritchie and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Dar Salim, Emily Beecham, Alexander Ludwig and Antony Starr. This is technically the second Guy Ritchie movie to be released in 2023 (although Operation Fortune was originally supposed to be released last year) After watching Operation Fortune I was a bit skeptical of how this would…

Zombie Flesh Eaters 1979
The absolute whiplash of coming straight home from a fancy-ass Shabbat dinner at someone’s multi-million-dollar McMansion, climbing into some sweatpants and a Fango t-shirt, plopping down on the couch with a beer and some maple leaf cookies, and scarfing down the hot, delicious trash that is Lucio Fulci’s Zombie. I contain multitudes.

Felicia's Journey 1999
Daytime horror so mundane it eliminates any sense of normalcy of which we can escape to, no escaping 'back' from the dark heart of the wood because that is simply the entire world. The film's constant flat brightness in its ever-present lighting paradoxically creates a powerful dreariness that pervades visually as the audio-mixing unsettles aurally, creating this sense of unease that suffuses the film at large and seemingly eliminates boundaries between established zones: day and night blend into each other…

Bob Dylan: Shadow Kingdom 2021
I’m ecstatic that this set is finally getting released! I love nothing more than hearing Bobby D rearrange his masterworks for the times.
This was also incredibly well shot for a one time event. Soo atmospheric.

Ghosted 2023
There are worse things than watching Chris Evans and Ana De Armas fight bad guys for two hours on a Friday night. Boy, Chris Evan has to be one of the most likeable actors ever. Nobody would ever ghost that man. This was fun. Nothing life-changing but easy and entertaining to watch. I also love how this movie needed to make a point of how insane taxi fares in London are. They are outrageous.
