In the mood for cheering up and this movie cannot fail to inject some hot burning bright powerful tangy happyhappy juju-juice. Also an awesome flashback to the fun, colorful, wacky, George Carlin filled, sweet Keanu filled 1989. Where has all the damn glorious color gone???
I love how some actors can just make you feel happy, everyone has their few, I have so many, from Christopher Lee and Vincent Price, Roddy McDowall, Divine, Gene Wilder, Kyle MacLachlan, Alicia Silverstone (yup). It doesn’t matter what they are in, how good or bad the movie is, or how much you really care, they just seem to make you feel happy, you just need to turn them on and all your troubles seem to melt away. Whether they are a damn fine actor and have that magic charisma, are your first crush or in your favourite nostalgic flick, or maybe a real life inspiration, it doesn’t matter.
Keanu Reeves is one of those for me, from the first times back in my troubled teen years of Rivers Edge and Youngblood, the fun times with Bill and Ted, all the way to now, he just has that ‘feel good’ vibe for me, that “I don’t care attitude”, that “life’s a bitch but who gives a shit” winning spirit. I always imagine in life Keanu just steps up and gets shit done, and when I’m down and feeling low, he always seems to pick me up and remind me I can just step up, hang loose, and get shit done. This film just reminds me of the ‘good old days’, when my friends would skate and the summers lasted forever, we would just hang at the beach, get a big gulp, and let all the bad shit in life wash over us. Ahhhh, thanks Keanu.
