I did not start watching this knowing its a contemporary reimagination of Tokyo Story. But halfway I realised I've seen this before. For a homage/remake to Yasujiro Ozu's Tokyo Story, Tokyo Family somehow still manages to work oozing warmth and melancholy like its source material despite the comparisons and even sometimes stands as an independent work in the contemporary setting. Its been a while since I watched a satisfying film. So probably thats why I'm being lenient on this. Having said that I really missed Setsuko Hara and Chishu Ryu. I mean the actors here did a decent job but.. Ozu is still Ozu..
