I’d really like to see this again, either sitting three rows from the front or with subtitles on. I was definitely missing some details in the dialogue that would’ve elucidated things for me. That said, Eggers’ attention to historical detail and ability to compose a frame are so fucking tight, hardly a surprise after The VVitch, so I can’t really complain too much for feeling lost. Much more cerebral and experimental than his debut; I’m honestly shocked a movie like this is getting a mainstream release.
Anyways, catch me hollerin’ like Willem Dafoe for the foreseeable future.
