The original "Mean Girls" is great. The new "Mean Girls" has a bunch of good moments derived from the original, but they also added a bunch of songs and the songs are not good. If you're going to make a musical, you need good songs!

Some real mastery here just in that it’s a 2.5 hour movie set in the world of classical music and it’s honestly not boring.
There’s a lot of cool small choices here that I think are worth noting.
— Sound design: The movie is about music but it uses long scoreless stretches and creepy silences (shots of cars that don’t make noise) to make us question what’s going on exactly when Lydia hears things.

There's a lot of skilled craft on display here, but I didn't really get this.
It reminded me a lot of Napoleon — these are biopics about famous and important figures that don't actually explain why their subjects are important.
