this is a tough one, because it leans into the stuff i love about eva and it leans into the stuff i find supremely annoying with the rebuilds so far.
i really like that this is a little more out there with shot compositions and often abandons any pretense of individual shots "making sense" in the same way as the best parts of the show's second half. i like that this movie is slower, reveling a little more in the terror of personal agency and living with past mistakes. i like that they made kaworu even gayer than in the show, that shit rocks.
however, as with the first two, i appreciate the spectacle but i find it deeply fucking difficult to care about an evangelion that leans harder into the psuedomystical religiosity "worldbuilding." this one disappointed me more than the others because it's that but spends so long pretending it's going to do anything else. i do not care very much about that crap dude!
