Top Gun: Maverick 2022
Went with my Mum and Dad to go see this, who are HUGE fans of the '86 film and they both said it was an 11/10, and I can see why.
Absolutely blew me away. The final 30 minutes is the best filmmaking I've seen all year. Had my mouth open in awe.Everything about this movie improves over the first. The scenes that reference and call you back to the original, play such a key role in your enjoyment…

Memoirs of an Invisible Man 1992
Chevy Chase is the biggest asshole and it translates so well to this film. I really genuinely did not like this, the plot was extremely conventional, it over relied on narration at points, and it never felt like the romantic relationship was earned. I was only kinda impressed by the visual effects until I saw the scene of Chevy Chase in the rain and it felt like there was some magic to me. I am deeply shocked though because this was marketed as a comedy and it is so unbelievably unfunny.

The Bob's Burgers Movie 2022
I’m not the biggest fan of this 11 year old show, as I’m more of a Simpsons person, but thanks to Cartoon Network’s Acme Night block, I’ve gotten to enjoy this show a little more than I should. I was already excited to see the movie, but knowing what it is, being a 2D animated film in 2022, I was a little scared to see the results, and then again the Teen Titans Go movie was actually very good too…

Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One 2021
"The town isn't big enough for two homicidal maniacs."
The third outing in the new DC animated universe gives us this universe's Batman and it follows one of his all-time greatest storylines, The Long Halloween! This adaptation is very solid all around, with a great depiction of the source material, stunning animation, and impressive voice acting.
The story centers around a series of brutal murders that take place on Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas, Gotham City’s young vigilante known…

Mr. Brooks 2007
Kuffs starring Christian Slater was the first movie I watched this year. While it's not a perfect movie it was a fun and enjoyable action/comedy romp. Good enough that I was curious about what else Bruce A. Evans had made, only to see that Mr. Brooks is his only other directorial credit. There was a fun thread on the subreddit for the Blank Check podcast, and remembered that I was planning on eventually watching this.
And boy howdy this is…

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World 1963
"Even businessmen, who rob and cheat and steal from people everyday, even they have to pay taxes."
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World is comedy gold. It has an amazing cast of comic actors: Captain T. G. Culpeper (Spencer Tracy), J. Russell Finch (Milton Berle), Melville Crump (Sid Caesar), "Benjy" Benjamin (Buddy Hackett), Mrs. Marcus (Ethel Merman), Ding Bell (Mickey Rooney), Sylvester Marcus (Dick Shawn), Otto Meyer (Phil Silvers), Lt. Col. J. Algernon Hawthorne (Terry-Thomas), Smiler Grogan (Jimmy Durante),…

Inland Empire 2006
Long story short I had to read the script for this movie as I was watching it. Definitely one of the more meta moments I’ve been through recently.

Top Gun 1986
67
Haven’t seen this in years, and I figured it’d obviously be smart to revisit it before seeing Maverick tomorrow. I was shocked at how little of this I remembered beyond the most iconic sequences, for better and worse. Tony Scott directs the hell out of it, with killer flying sequences, gorgeous sunset vistas and beachside locales (have sunsets ever looked this good in a movie?), an endearing MTV aesthetic, and palpable homoerotic tension so thick you could cut it…
