Fermière à Montfaucon

Fermière à Montfaucon ★★★

So MUBI has this Eric Rohmer’s marathon, so I am doing a bit of cheating and capturing a few shorts and what not to fill out my schedule. My first one is a 13 minute recollection of the daily life of a farmer in France, where we get an opportunity to take a journey through history and visit a particular part of the people's lives.

Originally shot as a TV segment produced by the one and only Barbet Schroeder, this was also one of the most engaging of the short documentaries about people's daily lives I've seen. Also maybe this might be a stretch, but something about it was very reminiscent of Jeanne Dielman, 23 quai du commerce, 1080 Bruxelles – though of course, this is an extremely shorter and, personally, much interesting take on many of the essential concepts of that movie. There is nothing groundbreaking or major about this woman, yet it is in her simplicity that the short shines.

All in all, not for everyone, but if you're a fan of the director or love this kind of subject matter I recommend you check it out.
