Josh Parmer’s review published on Letterboxd:
Ringo Lam takes the wu xia genre to its darkest depths with Burning Paradise. Firstly, I didn't know what to expect with Lam stepping into this unfamiliar genre (for him) and furthermore didn't expect this film to go in the directions it did. There are some really over-the-top HK jokes sprinkled throughout and the finale drags on a bit too much and for me it felt as if the fantastical elements that had been built within the world of Burning Paradise, went too far even for itself. Overall, I loved the movie and I think it is one of Ringo Lam's hidden gems. A true classic and quite different take on the genre... filled to the brim with extreme violence.
