Movies “Mofa” Fan123’s review published on Letterboxd:
This was actually really great. Nicolas Cage is amazing. He gives a more toned down and subtle performance in this opposed to his normal stuff. He put a lot into the role and was able to morph into the character. The character is very layered and the film does a great job at showing why he cares so much about this pig. It has a similar plot to John Wick but goes with a much more slow and emotional approach. It doesn’t have much action at all if really any. It is a character study. Alex Wolff is great too. I really like that guy. He was amazing in Hereditary and was really good in this too. He has a promising career ahead of him. I loved the chemistry between him and Cage. Their relationship is surprisingly a really great aspect of the film. As the film went along I just enjoyed more and more. There are some odd scenes but I also think a lot those did make the film even more interesting. There is all this interesting backstory to the main character and it kind of has some nice world building to be honest. It’s a well made film too. The direction is nice. It impacted me a lot more than I thought it would. It is a quite emotional film throughout especially by the end. The end is good. It ends in a perfect way for what it was trying to do. There is just something about this film that is so good. It really doesn’t have the right to be as good as it is. I think a lot of people will like this and I hope people see this. I think it will only have a limited theater release but hopefully a good amount of people do see it because it deserves to be seen. It won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Some might find it too weird or too slow. For me the pacing was great. I liked the slowness of it and it engaged me the whole time. I don’t have really any flaws. Just a few scenes were a bit too odd just one or two. There are also some small nitpicks I have but nothing that really matters. It is really enjoyable. Definitely one of the best films of the year so far. Check it out!
