    M3GAN

    ★★★★

Thank you M3GAN for kicking us off to a great 2023 start! What a surprisingly fun blast this was from beginning to end! The team behind M3GAN clearly knows what audience they are catering to and fully leans into the creep/camp factor. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this with my friends in a packed theater. M3GAN is PG-13 (originally Rated-R) but I feel the filmmakers stretched their limited Blumhouse budget and did good in pushing this rating at times. I’m looking…

  • Happy Death Day

    Happy Death Day

    ★★★★

Happy Death Day was a delightful treat upon first watch, back in 2017! Our lead, Tree, played by the wonderful Jessica Rothe kills it in this role! I love her character arch from beginning to end! She brings a lot of heavy lifting here to this movie and should have been a start making role! It’s Scream, plus Groundhogs Day, with a touch of Final Destination! High recommended!

    ★★★★

Solid thriller, with excellent performances from our leads! Glenn Close in another star making role, chews up the scenery! Highly recommended for those who’ve never seen it before. Great stuff!

  • Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse

Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse

    ★★★

A fun zombie romp from director Christopher Landon (Happy Death Day, Freaky)! Such an entertaining ride from start to finish. Lots of gore, and big laughs! It was nice revisiting this one.

  • Maniac

    Maniac

    ★★★★

Highly stylized, creepy, and brutal. This is a fantastic remake, to a very disturbing film. The original MANIAC is a very hard, uncomfortable watch and this new adaptation effects me the same way! Elijah Wood is fantastic here. Very creepy, disturbing character study. Highly recommended!

  • Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight

Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight

    ★★★½

“Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight” is one wild ride! First and foremost, Ernest R. Dickerson directed the hell out of this movie! Excellent crazy practical effects! Awesome demon creature designs! A fun recognizable cast all around. Billy Zane completely hamming it up in every scene he’s in! I forgot how good and fun this movie really is. Highly recommended!

  • Halloween II

    Halloween II

    ★★½

Call me crazy, but I liked this one better than Zombie’s first Halloween remake. Probably because of how off the wall it is and it’s basically nothing we’ve seen before in the franchise. I dig it.

Absolutely love this movie! Intense from beginning to end. Excellent score! Excellent cinematography! Excellent acting actress the board, especially our lead actress Elisabeth Moss! Outstanding horror/thriller! THIS is how you do it! Leigh Whannell (Insidious 3, Upgrade) is quickly becoming one of my new favorite directors!

It is what it is. Zombie’s take on John Carpenter’s classic. It’s loud, in your face, and gory!

  • Ruthless People

    Ruthless People

    ★★★★

Bette Midler and Danny DeVito star in this hilarious comedy of mishaps! If you haven’t seen “Ruthless People” check it out today. Hands down, one of my absolute favorite comedy’s from the 1980’s! This movie is a riot! Where’s the blu-ray?!?!?!

Disturbing and unsettling. The whole look and feel of this series got under my skin. Evan Peters and Niecy Nash were outstanding! I hope they are both looked at come award season. Highly recommend!

  • Hocus Pocus 2

    Hocus Pocus 2

    ★★

Hocus Pocus 2 was a predictably watered down copy of the original, only now, it’s 2022. Of course it was great to see the OG cast return - Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy walked right off the set of Hocus Pocus (1993) and landed here in present day, and didn’t skip a beat, for the most part!

My problems with the sequel, rely on everything else. A bad script, not very good direction from director Anne Fletcher, bland cinematography, characters I didn’t care about at all. In the end, Hocus Pocus 2 feels very sanitized and largely empty, with a couple fun moments.
