The Swimmer

The Swimmer

Soaked in upper-middle class dysphoria, a middle-aged man, forgetful of his life, attempts one last youthful conquest by swimming through every pool in the suburbs like a river back to his home.

Burt Lancaster gives major Don Draper energy, the proto-Mad Men ennui of a guy who cheated on his wife, lost all his money, forgot about his kids, drank all day, and tried to sleep with his babysitter. A guy who asks himself “what happened?” every single day of his life despite seemingly having the American dream.
