Michael Brooks’s review published on Letterboxd:
I love it when Marvel brings to life one of their lesser-known heroes and Shang-Chi "Master of Kung Fu" does add a little more diversity to the MCU, but as great as all that is the film is not without its flaws. The first 45-minutes is an amazing martial arts film but once we reach the halfway point the Marvel formula becomes more predominant, taking over completely with the third act CGI extravaganza, and the film's pacing is constantly interrupted by these expositional flashbacks that reveal information that could easily have been dealt with in the first act, that all said, the film is a blast to watch and a visual feast, the magic village of Ta Lo and all its wonderful creatures a highlight for me, and Simu Liu as Shang-Chi is a nice addition to the Marvel Universe and I can't wait to see more stories with him, Awkwafina and Meng'er Zhang as things expand and the plots bring even more interesting characters out of the pages of the comics.
