    ★★

Not a lot here to talk about. This film is basically John Wick without the personality. Odd pacing, and very confused senses of humor and morality knock it further.

  • Belfast

    Belfast

    ★★

Man, this movie is dull. It’s not poorly made, but it never feels like anything more than a collection of scenes. Sure, there is an overarching plot, and even films without a plot can be great, but this film never feels connected.

Part of it must be the surface-level nature of everything here. The film seems to want to be important, but it’s mostly the same two or three conversations happening over and over. There isn’t a sense of flow…

  • The Spy Who Loved Me

    The Spy Who Loved Me

    ★★

The Spy Who Loved Me has some moments of goofy, wacky fun that show the highs of what a Roger Moore Bond film could be. Unfortunately, outside of these moments the film itself is just a slog. The story is pretty bland, the setup is uninteresting, most of the action is slow and boringly staged. The film succeeds when it does thanks to embracing a sillier version of Bond. The Submarine car chase is the perfect example, constantly escalating the wildness of the sequence. Unfortunately, after this scene the movie goes back to just being kind of boring.

  • The World Is Not Enough

    The World Is Not Enough

    ★★

oooph. Not a good film. There are some good ideas here, but they are all executed in the dullest way possible.

  • 2 Fast 2 Furious

    2 Fast 2 Furious

    ★★

    CONS:
This movie is empty. It really just amounts to a lot of nothing.

The tone is all over the place. One minute it’s dumb fun. The next it’s psychotically mean spirited.

The villain is the worst kind of boring and poorly acted.

There is no real flow from scene to scene. It’s just a collection of moments.

    PROS:
Honestly, it’s so dumb that it becomes fun just enough times to keep from being unbearable.

    Paul Walker and Tyrese Gibson…

  • Mortal Kombat

    Mortal Kombat

    ★★

How the do you even rate a film like this? It's not good, but then it was never going to be. The fight scenes are very cool, and for many watching, that's enough. However, in the end I found myself disappointed.

There's a lot to love about the film, especially for fans of the game. The fight scenes are very well done. They are shot clearly, often in long takes that can show off the strong martial arts choreography. As…

  • Quantum of Solace

    Quantum of Solace

    ★★

Perfect example of how NOT to edit an action film. All of the good stunts are wasted since the film cuts the scenes up to the point of incomprehensibility. The narrative suffers the same fate, clearly going through rewrites during filming. Honestly, it has some moments of unintentional fun, and does play well as an accidental spoof of Bond films.

  • Godzilla vs. Kong

    Godzilla vs. Kong

    ★★

All three of the previous monsterverse films have had bad scripts and boring human plotlines that suck up waaay too much screentime. That said, they all also made up for that with a sense of weight, beauty and buildup. By the time you get to the final fights in each of those films, you really WANT Godzilla or Kong to destroy their enemy, giving these films a sense of momentum and buildup that justifies some of their dead air time.…
