    Don't Look Up

Ugh, almost every time I started to like a scene in this film it decided to trudge on well past the point where it made its, well, point. This is a good analogy for the film itself which effectively tells Its main joke in the first 30 minutes, then proceeds to do the same joke over and over and over and over and over for another two hours.

Ultimately I agree with the filmmakers on the topic of climate change,…

  • Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City

What do you get when you try to adapt two separate games into one film? Apparently a disjointed mess. Welcome to Raccoon City tries to be a more faithful adaptation of the games, but in the process mostly fails to be a film in and of itself.

The decision to meld the stories of RE 1 and 2 proves the biggest head scratcher. The constant cutting between the stories saps away any of the tension that could have been built…

  • Gunpowder Milkshake

    Gunpowder Milkshake

More of a director’s reel than a film. There are a lot of stylistic decisions in this film, each one more baffling than the previous. The film has some fun with the action, but then screeches to a halt with draggy drawn out sequences where little happens and none of it makes sense. The dialogue is childish, the needle drops are annoying, and so much slow mo that Zack Snyder would tell them to relax. It’s a film that makes you say “what” over and over as it just fumbles over itself left and right.

  • Those Who Wish Me Dead

    Those Who Wish Me Dead

I was excited for this film when I heard it was a throwback to 90s mid-budget action thrillers, a genre I really like. While watching this film I suddenly remembered that, despite my fondness for the genre, most of those movies sucked.

Those Who Wish Me Dead has an intriguing premise, a firefighter must save a child from two hitmen while outrunning a forest fire. Unfortunately, that synopsis barely describes the film. It eventually gets there in the third act,…

Man, I wish I liked this movie. This kind of film, mid budget thrillers with great actors, is exactly the kind of film I wish for made more often. Unfortunately, nothing about this film works.

That’s not entirely true. Denzel Washington is solid. It’s nothing he hasn’t done before, but it’s nice to watch him do his thing. Rami Malek is trying his best, but he overplays the character to the degree that many…
