From tid bits from people in the entertainment industry to die hard patrons, the story of the new Beverly cinema is a love letter to the movie lover. The occasional vintage refreshment advertisement adds a level of authenticity and nostalgia that you don’t find these days. Highly recommend this documentary

Terrible. The plot of the movie is weak and at times hard to follow, the structure of the film and parts of the plot make it seem like a Bronx tale/scarface rip off. The soundtrack is pretty solid but outside of that the movie isn’t worth a watch.

For being from 1965, the camera work was terrible, the shots were foggy and the lighting atrocious. The beast they had was a concept that was great and the final 7 minutes were fun but the acting was stale, at times it would hard to see the full shot, and for a hour long movie it seemed like the first 50 minutes were all filler for a bit of a lacklustre finale

In my opinion this is gyllenhaal‘a best movie since Donnie Darko, his ability to play such a creepy and weird character without missing a beat, making the audience almost go along with how socially inept but manipulative his character really is plays perfectly into the plot of the film. Although a bit long in some spots, the fast paced chasing for shots keeps you entertained but what really keeps you watching is the almost anxiety inducing scenes where Gyllenhaal playing Louis Bloom is having only conversations with people, the awkwardness the other characters must feel in the picture perfectly translates while watching. Definitely worth a watch
