*sanj voice* this took 144 minutes
it works you over eventually because it's built that way and executed just well enough. but i spent too much time thinking how much of it had to be softened so as to not offend its still-living subject. there's a tougher, better movie about the tension around being both parent and coach to a pair of athletic prodigies somewhere in here. instead it feels like another interview Richard cuts off midstream.
the awards buzz is deafening but Smith gives, at best, the third best performance in the movie. at best! i suppose i don't begrudge him farting his way to a golden globe or something.
