I had a similar issue to this film that I had with Big Trouble in Little China; the plot feels very disjointed and not coherent. Big Trouble had the benefit of being a silly and fun film, that didn't need the plot to be amazing and coherent, with likeable leads and a fun overall cast, and was an enjoyable watch. Prince of Darkness, as the name implies, is on the darker side, and does in fact need coherence in its plot. There isn't a lead character for us to invest in, but a badly built ensemble. Donald Pleasance is, of course, fantastic, but isn't given much to do with what could have been a great, meaty role.
