Ridley Scott's Blade Runner is a seminal film. Dark tones and noir tropes abound. However, its deeper layers reveal much more. Boundless technology, nefarious conglomerate interests, and subjugation epitomize a very shadowy future. The concepts presented are substantial and provocative, but never at the expense of entertainment. Staggering production design and engaging characters never allow the themes of the narrative to interfere with an enjoyable sequence. Every breath of dialog and every neon lit corridor serve the story entirely. A swirling melee of awe and wonderment consumes all and allows true escape into this world.
