Mockingjack’s review published on Letterboxd:
As someone that hasn’t played the game mortal kombat, I was really lost because the script rushed its world building so much. There were parts that made no sense to me, and unfortunately the actors performances couldn’t redeem this. The direction seems poor quality because a lot of the film isn’t coherent. I also felt the ending was so anti climatic and as rushed as possible. Motivations were lost, character archs were cut short, and there was weird editing in several of the fight scenes.
The positive is the fight scene choreography. The film leans into its violence and gore, which is a smart decision.
I saw this in a theater and I’m glad I did. The theatrical experience makes up for a bit of the low quality of the film.
