Mike Martin’s review published on Letterboxd:
This ruled, we were looking for something sub 120, horror adjacent, and a “lighter” watch. 2 out of 3 aint bad.
Angsty, elaborate sci-fi, DEEPLY psychological, shockingly funny. I was really shocked by the direction this film went. I went in ready for a spooky time and got karate chopped in the throat by space time explanations. A very good change for me personally.
Jake was awesome too. He’s always great honestly, one of the best of his generation. The rest of the cast is wild too. The family connection is sick, I wonder when Maggie got dragged into this. His parents are great and pretty funny, Seth Rogan plays a horrible bully, and Ashley Tisdale, Jerry Trainor, and the fat kid from Zoey 101 pre-united for the 2005 afternoon CLASSIC.
Fate plays a really interesting role in this. Donnie coming to terms with what he can change and not combined with his therapist giving him the most toxic advice while he's hypnotized.
If the sky were to suddenly open up... there would be no law... there would be no rule. There would only be you and your memories... the choices you've made and the people you've touched.
Music was obviously 10/10. Love Joy Division, love Tears for Fears.
Crazy watch on 9/11…
