If I didn't know any better, I would swear Director Robert Eggers is from another time, the way he brilliantly tells his stories and takes us to distant places. He is a masterful filmmaker who needs not rely on flashy effects, but instead tells deep, dark stories. The Northman is certainly deep and dark, and is a violent story of men living in a time of blood, death and mysticism. This film is so simple, yet so rich in character and emotion. With yet another brilliant feature, Eggers has truly made a place for himself amongst the very best making movies.
