I've been meaning to check this film out since it played as part of last year's NZ International Film Festival. At that time, for some reason I thought the May-December relationship the title referred to was actually a lesbian one between Portman and Moore (don't ask me how I got that idea). Anyway, I'm glad I finally got the chance to check it out on the big screen (even though it's taken way too long to get a general release…

Any of my Letterboxd friends - or anyone who even takes a passing glance at my profile or reviews - will know that I skew heavily toward more accessible, mainstream fare. That's not something I hide or deny, and I don't really think there's anything wrong with that, but it's why I tend to dislike more abstract films like The Zone of Interest. It didn't gel with me, and I can't critique it in any insightful way other than to…

An often laugh-out-loud hilarious slasher comedy that is super enjoyable despite an obvious mystery and the unnecessary, random use of telepathy. Of a great cast who work wonderfully together, X Mayo and Dewayne Perkins (the latter also co-wrote) were the standouts. Loved the Scream 2 reference in the cold open too.

Picks up a lot with a strong final third that capitalises on the more interesting ideas at play and has fun with the Graham/Crampton performances (they’re the best tools the film has in its kit) but it sure is rough-going to get to that point. I’ll be generous and go for a 3 over a 2.5, but it’s a low 3.

Look, objectivity is out the window when it comes to the Scream films for me. While the first two films are pretty much as perfect as horror films can get in my eyes and are deserving of the perfect scores I gave them, the ones that have followed - which I all also gave a perfect five stars…

The theatre I saw this clearly needs to up its sound-proofing game because an incredibly loud Taylor Swift: Eras Tour Concert showing in the next cinema over was blasting through the walls the whole time. At times - especially, and amusingly, during a crowd singalong of "Blank Space" - the noise of the Swifties actually eclipsed the sound of the dialogue of this film. Thus my whole experience felt akin to trying to complete some boring homework assignment on a…
