This was one of the recs that was given as a "must-see" for the ๐Ÿ˜ฎ gang (a group chat I'm in). Here's the list if you want to see what all was picked out with names attached.

This is a tragedy. It is the fall of a virtuous man and the rise of a sinful one. It is a cycle of vengeance and violence. Power struggles give way to inexplicable and unexpected loss. Murdering someone is a job. It's just a job. Life has no meaning beyond holding power and as a man, you must uphold this truth. We are all marionettes on strings in this impassioned play of life where our emotions are the marionettists.

Without a doubt in my mind, one of the greatest films ever made. Like there's no debate. There's so much craft involved with the filmmaking and all of it is executed with such perfection. Every aspect is sublime. It is top-of-the-line well-crafted cinema and easily a masterpiece in every sense of the word. It's perfect and arguably any of my problems with it could be regulated to nitpicks. I don't think there ever will be a film I respect more than this. But uh... you know... I'm starting to think that I'm not ever going to really love the genre of mafia films, you know?

Like don't get me wrong, as I said, everything here is extremely well-crafted and will probably grow on me in time. And features two really excellent performances from Al Pacino (Michael Corleone) and Marlon Brando (Don Corleone).

But on the other hand, it really f**king drags. It is either you are invested or not and I mean, that is for every slow burn and when it comes to every mafia film, that's usually the deal and I don't think I can work with that. It also throws a whole lot at you with it expecting you to grasp who everybody is and I'm kept getting lost on who was who, which again affected my experience.

All that being said, as I said in the beginning, this is definitely one of the greatest films ever made, but it's not one that I'll love as much as everybody else.
