I enjoy a really well done cop tale, but man, fuck all cops.

Jane Campion is simultaneously thrilling and frustrating. The emotional core of her films - and especially her thorny, complex explorations of sexuality - are SO GOOD! Always something totally unexpected yet utterly real. And the direction, always stellar. But her films are also often rife with implausibility in plot, script and character choices. All that being said, truly enjoyed the absolutely fucked vibes of this movie. It captures a certain wary, deeply observant, exhilarating, absurd feeling of being a woman walking alone at night and stretches it out into a feature length film.

Really no reason to watch this thin plodding weirdly toned movie when there are films like Markus Schleinzer’s MICHAEL in the world.

Great maelstrom of sound and color. Throughly enjoyed the acting. It’s long, baby, but largely worth it.

Gimmicky and dull. Doesn’t even have the courage of its convictions to cast actual old-ass actors.

    ★★★

Slippery, sexy lil number with a questionable script that left me feeling adrift in the wash of plot, and ultimately indifferent. Doesn’t touch BDP’s best work.

Good story with interesting, idiosyncratic elements, good acting and great cinematography - just moves at an absolutely glacial pace.

Fabulously twisty little number. Loved the reference to a ridic Fritz Lang gothic melodrama embedded within this highly mannered and French - yet no less ridic and gothic - melodrama.

Crackling, grisly mob story plus a lady who’s a big-time Buttinsky. Good stuff.

15 twists too many, but still sleazy, sweaty fun.
