A slasher that is completely and 100% ambiguous. I literally have no idea what happened in this movie. Loved it
The final half hour pulls it through. There’s a few too many contrivances, a few too many character beats that don’t work, a few too many character arcs that feel hamfisted(cough cough lashana Lynch cough cough) and it’s almost too saccharine. That said, I don’t care about bond and even I was moved by the end of the movie. And the set pieces kicked ass! Malek was an inconsistent villain.
The issue really could just bond isn’t for me.
I find that I react most strongly to film's or media in general that find magic in the human condition. This can be stories like Shape of Water, an inherently magic story, told with a sense of whimsy. Or films like Candyman, a magical story by nature but one steeped in tragedy and metaphor. Films that seek to exaggerate, embelish, or simply find the magic of life are my absolute favorite.
