Milez Das’s review published on Letterboxd:
Cal: What a cliché.
It all started because of David Lindhagen!
Cal has lost himself over these years. He is wearing 2 size more than he should, he looks like someone who has given up on everything and has just became a routine of himself. As his wife Emily says she wants a divorce and has slept with David Lindhagen, he hits him hard as much as Jacob slapping him everytime in that mall.
Crazy, Stupid, Love brings a mixture of soulmate, love, sex and whirlwind of cliché. It has its own beauty in showing it. It shows three generation of love. The past, present and the future. But everyone is struggling their way into this.
When Cal meets Jacob you see him changing, getting his confidence back, his groove back. Cal has conversations with his 13 year old son on soulmates and love and how you should not give up on it.
The movie itself becomes the perfect combination of sexy and cute. The part of Jacob and Hanna is especially that combination. I love the scene where Hannah and Jacob just talk through the night. Asking personal questions, to Hannah declaring that she is R rated Sexy, to Jacob removing his shirt. Also, Hannah saying 'bang' a lot.
Written by Dan Fogelman and Directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa. Crazy, Stupid, Love becomes a search for love in its true self. From its uncomfortable situations and Ryan Gosling making everything look so stylish and sexy everytime he is in the frame. This movie has become one of my all time favorites.
Personally I don't go to mall for shopping but if Ryan Gosling is offering I am ready to get slapped and roam around with my credit card with Ryan Gosling buying me stuff.
One of my favorite scene is when Jacob asks Hannah to ask him something personal. And this Cal: I'm so mad at you. I'm really mad at you for what you did. But I'm mad at myself too. Because I should not have jumped out of that car - I should have fought for you. Because you fight for your soul mates.
Steve Carell, Ryan Gosling, Julianne Moore, Emma Stone give a heart to their performances here.
I love this movie. I love cliché.. I love Ryan Gosling eating that pizza. I love Ryan gosling.
