Moonlight ★★★★½

TIFF 2016: Film #7

"Moonlight" is quite possibly the most important film of 2016 and definitely one of the best. Barry Jenkins expertly crafts a perfect 3 act structure tale of one man's discovery of his own identity and realizing how he got to where he is. The film feels totally grounded in a tragic reality yet has many surrealist aspects that accent it and make it totally immersive. This is one of those beautiful rare films that causes one to reflect on their own life and what events defined them to who and where they are now. My mind is still blown, this is a truly groundbreaking, mesmerizing and emotionally devastating piece of film with a final shot that is forever engrained into my memory. You will leave the theatre a changed person. (9.5/10)
