I don't feel I have to wipe everybody out, Tom. Just my enemies.
The Godfather Part II did not live up to the lofty expectations I had put on it after hearing it was one of the few sequels to surpass the original (Empire Strikes Back, Judgement Day, Dark Knight, etc). It was definitely very good and I enjoyed it, just not a masterpiece on par with the original.
While Pacino as Michael is excellent again (SO in control and measured while being out of control), I much preferred the flashbacks with DeNiro as Vito Corleone as compared to the modern day storyline. However, I really enjoyed the dichotomy of loyalty and family between Vito & Michael and the way the story unfolded for both. One has friends and family, he repays favors, treats those around him with respect, and he is gaining power. The other is losing his family, everyone around him is betraying him, and by the end of the film, he is a shell of what he intended to become.
All that being said, man I wish there was a full length DeNiro as Vito film out there! He was amazing.
