Judas and the Black Messiah

Judas and the Black Messiah ★★★★

I really liked this, one of my favorite movies of the Oscar season (Sound of Metal, Nomadland, and Promising Young Woman being the other top contenders).

Really well made, well rounded. Script and pacing were terrific. Cinematography was excellent (I thought this was definitely better than Mank when it came to the Oscar but c'est la vie). Lakeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya were both excellent (the latter being very deserving of his Best Supporting Actor win as he was just so captivating). Plemmons also again showing what a great character actor he is.

The “I AM…...A REVOLUTIONARY” scene inside the church was the standout. Such a powerful intersection of so many characters. Kaluuya, his pregnant girlfriend, Stanfield & Plemmons. So good.

Also blew my mind that Fred Hampton was 21 years old when he died. Never would’ve realized that he was that young without the coda.

Once again, one of my favorites of this Oscar year and one I’ll go back to in the future.
