Halloween Kills

Halloween Kills

a horrendously mean film. while halloween 2018 was absolutely fighting against generational trauma and overpowering it, halloween kills takes an approach to say that your trauma will always come back to hurt you no matter what you do. every kill here is insanely brutal, which is not a bad thing inherently, but when every kill is either a likable character, someone who survived michael from the original or just a horribly trusted minority and you relish in the blood and guts, it makes it feel cruel. every characters motivations from 2018 feels completely thrown away, in favor of victim blaming and cop supporting, also halfassing a story about mob mentality that goes nowhere new and just makes the film ultimately feel crueler. john carpenters score and the cinematography and lighting are phenomenal, and easily the best parts of this movie, but halloween kills was just an apple that started souring rapidly while i was consuming it. i haven't felt this insulted by a film in a long time.
