My dad and I (re-)watched this last night, the day after we re-watched Barb and Star go to Vista Del Mar. The duality of man. On a serious note, Malignant holds up super well on re-watch — knowing the twist only makes the viewing experience more thrilling. I still think this is one of the coolest movies released in the last couple of years. It gives itself over to all of the tropes of the horror genre, pairing melodrama with inventive horror sequences. This is, of course, only in the first two acts of the movie. The final act is so off-the-walls bizarre, it entirely redefines the kind of movie Malignant is: it's no longer a by-the-numbers horror offering — it's now a bloody epic with a gnarly boogeyman at the center.
