A cheerleader for actors / a strategist of visuals.
Seeing this film at the Nuart in 2003 was, quite simply, one of the most joyous experiences I've ever had in a movie theater. I was blindsided, as was the rest of the crowd. I've since watched the film four times since theatrically (once at the Egyptian as part of a double feature with Can't Stop The Music). And watched my DVD at least 5 or 6 times.
I hadn't seen it in years, but am going on a podcast…
This film has no business being as classy as it is. Peter Sarsgaard and Vera Farmiga have to be two of my favorite actors working today; their relationship feels so lived in. The script delivers everything you would want out of a premise like this, and goes to much darker places than you can imagine. And I appreciated how considered Jaume's direction was; he lets the actors do their thing, and makes restrained choices throughout. I think the marketing campaign…
I sincerely hope you all have fun watching our movie. If anyone's curious, here are some of the films I studied while I was writing: letterboxd.com/michaelmohan/list/the-voyeurs-research/
