This is such a funny movie to me conceptually because it’s framed like a traditional mystery story but instead of it being about a murder or a robbery it’s about trying to figure out who’s been pouring glue in a bunch of girl’s hair and then they figure it out and just move on. Really gorgeous though! Also the three principals are so charming!
You can see the foundations of the screwball comedy being laid here. It's a romantic comedy with an emphasis on a gap in social classes and the misunderstandings and complications that arise from such a pairing. However, it relies on the concept itself for humor rather than having a particularly strong or funny script. It just kind of floats by in a nondescript manner. Capra would, of course, get the formula right a few years later.
