Matt Fallon’s review published on Letterboxd:
The acting in this movie is fantastic. Hoffman, Phoenix, and Adams all give laudable performances in their respective roles. The overall movie, however, fell a bit short of expectations for me. While it is still a beautiful movie features impeccable cinematography, the plot is not great. It is mainly about the broken nature of a man who has returned from war, yearning for some sort of order in his life. It is given to him by the master, who is kind to him, yet he finds that he is still unable to trust him. In the end, it is still a fine film, just not as good as other films created by Paul Thomas Anderson.
