I’m not ashamed to admit I’ve watched a LOT of Tsai-Ming Liang & am a HUGE fan.
As near to perfection as you can get. The trickles that appear all through his oeuvre - here the cinema used in Goodbye, Dragon Inn (or one very similar), the upstairs downstairs of Vive L’Amour or The Hole, even the slow decent into the Paris metro is redone as one of the ‘Walker’ series and trust me the monk’s a lot slower.
Love the graveyard scene with Jean-Pierre Léaud. (And film goers will know he’s the 400 Blows kid that our watch seller watches on his tv).
Beautiful film just beautiful.
BTW I’m having to miss Melbourne Cinémathèque’s first week of Tsai Ming-Liang hence the early immersion
