Some of the horror trope call-outs feel a little obvious and there’s a bit of a tonal commitment issue (Is it horror? Is it comedy? Is it both?), but overall, the original Scream is a fun and frightening film with a clever take on the slasher villain, creative kills, compelling characters, genuinely unnerving scares, and satisfying deconstruction of tried and true tropes. 

Actually legit curious about the sequels now, too.
