M.D. Perkins’s review published on Letterboxd:
Overhyped and oversold, but still hitting a ton of the right notes and (thankfully) sets itself apart from so much of what's wrong with blockbuster filmmaking these days. Definitely nostalgic (and specifically designed to be so), but the best thing about this to me is it feels like we're back in a galaxy a long, long time ago...where the tech doesn't always work right, where there's stuff that's falling apart, and where there's only a limited number of people on each side (mostly). Considering I had zero expectations going in (and was getting pretty tired of the 20 mins of SW-themed commercials on the preroll), I came out feeling pretty good about the Star Wars universe again, which actually says quite a bit about Abrams and company's accomplishment. Will watch again.
